Klezmer reimagined, from Montreal to stages around the world.”

A leading voice on Quebec’s cross-cultural music scene, Oktopus is a Montreal-based ensemble primarily devoted to klezmer music, boldly reimagining the tradition through classical, Quebecois and jazz influences. Founded in 2010 by clarinetist, composer and arranger Gabriel Paquin-Buki, the ensemble has given more than 350 performances in Canada and internationally.

Virtuosity, energy and humour define Oktopus’ live performances, where klezmer and Eastern European traditions meet the music of Brahms, Kodály and Mahler, the songs of Félix Leclerc and Gilles Vigneault, and jazz improvisation. This distinctive approach has earned Oktopus numerous awards and nominations, including recognition from the JUNO Awards, ADISQ, Canadian Folk Music Awards and Opus Awards.

In 2025, Oktopus released Brahms, Balkans & Bagels, a project that imaginatively weaves together classical music and Eastern European folk traditions.

Building on its extensive touring experience and distinctive musical identity, Oktopus will be at WOMEX 2026 to develop new touring opportunities and build collaborations with festivals, presenters, agents and international partners.
