Constantinople
Founded in Montreal in 2001 and led by setar player and composer Kiya Tabassian, Constantinople has established itself as a creative ensemble at the crossroads of the world’s musical traditions. The ensemble has released 27 albums on the Analekta, Atma, World Village, Buda Musique, MaCase, Glossa and Dreyer Gaido labels.
With a decidedly international outlook, over the past ten years the ensemble has developed nearly 63 original creations, presented in more than 296 cities across 59 countries, building a strong presence on stages throughout Europe, North America, Asia and Africa.
Its touring catalogue features several projects built around compelling artistic encounters, including Estuaire with griot and kora master Ablaye Cissoko, Clair-obscur with Corsican vocal ensemble A Filetta, Oum Kalthoum & Omar Khayyam with Ghalia Benali, as well as a duo bringing together Kiya Tabassian and Iranian kamancheh master Kayhan Kalhor.
From the Berlin Philharmonie to Mexico’s Festival Internacional Cervantino and the Fes Festival of World Sacred Music, Constantinople has developed an extensive international network.
At WOMEX 2026, Constantinople is looking to connect with presenters, festivals, agents and international partners to develop new touring opportunities, artistic collaborations and long-term partnerships across international markets.
